Reviving the Māturīdī Ḥanafī Tradition in Australia

A rare opportunity to study classical ʿIlm al-Kalām through the rich scholarly tradition of Transoxiana — the legacy of Bukhara and Samarkand.

Starts 18 April 12 Weeks Online + Recordings

For centuries, the great centres of Islamic learning—Bukhara and Samarkand—produced giants of scholarship who preserved and articulated the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah through the lens of Imām Abū Ḥanīfah and the Māturīdī tradition.

Today, however, this profound science—ʿIlm al-Kalām rooted in the Ḥanafī-Māturīdī legacy—has all but disappeared in Australia.

Darul Irshad now embarks on a mission to revive this lost tradition.

A New Beginning — The First Cohort

We are calling forward a founding cohort—students who wish to be part of a historic revival.

This is not just another class. This is the re-establishment of a scholarly tradition that shaped the intellectual backbone of the Muslim world for over a millennium.

The Work We Begin With

al-Muʿtamad min al-Muʿtaqad

by Imām ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn al-Kāsānī al-Ḥanafī (d. 587 AH)

  • A foundational treatise in Ḥanafī creed
  • Rooted in the methodology of early Māturīdī scholars
  • Represents the legacy of the Transoxanian tradition
  • Taught in English
  • Text translated live by the instructor
  • Explained with clarity, depth, and relevance

Why This Matters

  • Restore intellectual confidence in Islamic belief
  • Respond to modern doubts and deviations
  • Reconnect with a living scholarly tradition
  • Revive a neglected but essential science

Our Vision

To establish Darul Irshad as a leading centre in Australia—and beyond—for:

  • Māturīdī Ḥanafī ʿAqīdah
  • ʿIlm al-Kalām
  • Classical scholarship rooted in tradition and relevance

This is only the beginning.
