Course Overview
This course provides a structured and rigorous introduction to Muṣṭalaḥ al-Ḥadīth. Students will explore the core terminology used by the muḥaddithūn, understand how ḥadīth are classified, and develop a strong methodological foundation.
The course combines direct engagement with a classical Arabic text alongside guided explanation, practical examples, and contextualisation for modern students.

• Narrator principles: ʿAdālah & Ḍabṭ
• Jarḥ wa Taʿdīl methodology
• Mursal, Munqaṭiʿ, Muʿḍal, Tadlīs
• Introduction to ʿIlal (hidden defects)
• Shādh, Munkar, Muḍṭarib, Maqlūb
• Taḥammul & Adāʾ methods
